How to Turn Off Autoplay Videos

Whether you want to avoid distracting content or save bandwidth, here's how you can turn off automatic video playback on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video. Autoplay may not be as cool as autotune, but it sure is annoying. Social networks quickly added the so-called function to their offers, but it is not always welcome. The only thing that pleases me is that my favorite application, which can be found under the download link, still works without this annoying advertisement, so I use it often, as before.


On mobile devices, a constant loop can eat your data and drain your battery. Not to mention the mess of a poorly timed video reviving on your phone. And then there are videos with disturbing content that you may not watch without warning. The good news is that you can turn this off for large services. Do that.


Twitter

You can turn off autoplay on Twitter.com or on your mobile device. On Twitter.com, click the three-dot More menu and select Settings and Privacy. Select Accessibility, display, and language > Data access > Autoplay > Never to prevent autoplay videos and GIFs while scrolling. On iOS and Android, tap your profile, go to Settings & Privacy > Display & Sounds, and uncheck Media Previews.


Facebook

Autoplay on Facebook means views and views, so the company probably won't turn it off. On Facebook.com, click the down arrow in the upper right corner and select Settings & Privacy > Settings. Then select Videos from the left menu and go to Autoplay Videos. Select Off from the drop-down menu.

On your mobile phone, go to Settings and Privacy > Settings. Under Media and Contacts, select Videos and Photos > Never autoplay videos.


Instagram

Instagram does not offer an option to completely disable autoplay. However, you can use less data, which is useful for those with limited bandwidth each month. On your mobile, open your profile, select the hamburger icon in the upper right corner and tap Settings > Account > Mobile usage, and enable Use fewer data. When you open Instagram, autoplay videos will be muted. However, if you tap sound on one video, all other videos in your stream will play sound until you tap the screen again. If you sign out of Instagram, the app will be muted the next time you open the app.


YouTube

Google isn't giving up on all those sweet video views, so it's also autoplay enabled on YouTube.com. To turn it off, look for the slider with the game icon. Click it to turn off the autoplay. Tap the video you are watching on your mobile and look for the same prompt. touch to turn off.
